Nobody knows where the ghost came from. Some say he was there before the shop, before the street, before anyone thought to count.

The story most people tell starts in a thrift store, at the back, on a rack of old coats. One of them was small, worn, and very quiet. It hung there for years, and nobody ever picked it up.

Customers walked past. Some touched the sleeve and moved on. The ghost didn’t mind. He was good at waiting, and he had learned the names of every coin that fell into the lining.

Then one rainy night, the door opened and everything changed.

The stranger came in to get out of the rain. They weren’t looking for a coat. They were just looking for somewhere dry.

They slipped a hand into the pocket of the little coat and felt something tiny curl around their finger. “...Boo?” said a very small voice.

The stranger didn’t scream. They smiled, bought the coat for a few coins, and walked out into the rain with a ghost in their pocket.

It was warm in there. It smelled like lint, old receipts and someone’s heartbeat. He decided to stay.

A ghost in a pocket needs to eat. At least, that’s what he told everyone, and nobody was brave enough to argue.

So he found a tiny pot, a few strands of lint that looked like spaghetti, and a sauce nobody has ever identified. He called it “a classic.”

The kitchen was a disaster. There was sauce on the keys, steam on the phone and a very proud ghost standing in the middle of it all.

“Under control,” he said. Nobody believed him. Everyone had seconds.
